Tigers in Normandy

In the few hours per month spare time I can find I like to read. And what better than to read about one’s preferred topic. In my case that still has to be the WW2 campaign in Normandy. And even better than to just read about it, is to SHARE what one reads and learns. So I enlisted as a reviewer for Pen and Sword Books in the UK, one of the best dedicated publishers of military history titles.

Today I received the hefty book of Tigers in Normandy by Wolfgang Schneider. Filled with information AND photos of the famous and most dreaded German tank of that era. I’ll report back while reading !

Sling LSA and Autogyros RELEASED !

Sling 2 has been RELEASED !

Yup, I finally managed to finish the manual and packaging and the light sports aircraft Sling 2 from South Africa is now available in our store. I’ll make the simMarket and Aerosoft versions sometime later next week.

But that’s not all. Simon also built modesl of 2 autogyros and customers of the Sling get those added FOR FREE !! These things are really fun to fly in FSX and wonderful little scenery tourers !

The SLing itself is for FSX and Prepar3D (installers included) and has all the ‘Smeiman Features’ and animations, including a working ballistic parachute in case your fuel runs out !

Getting there

The Sling package is ready now…… Installer tested, documentation finished. But as we are releasing two extra FREE autogyros with it, there is a little more work to do before I put it in our shop……. and later in the simMarket and Aerosoft shops too. Once ready I can re-focus on the ‘bunker building’ for the Crourseulles-sur-Mer bunkers and hedgehogs !

So just a little more patience please….. stay tuned !

Sling 2 will be released this week !

I am now working on the Pilot’s Notes (User Manual) for Simon Smeiman’s latest aircraft, the Sling 2. Should be ready this week and then we’ll release the new FSX aircraft in our shop. Buyers of the Sling don’t get just this one GA aircraft. They ALSO get – for FREE – two wonderful little autogyros that Simon made as an experiment, the RAF 2000 and the Magni M24 Orion ! So you’ll get not one but three aircraft to add to your stable for the price of ONE !

Also coming soon is an Expansion Pack for our wonderful Lockheed Hudson/Lodestar, to be released within the next few weeks as well.

After that it is full steam ahead on the Avro Anson, which will be a nice add-on to our WW2 series and our upcoming Normandy 1944 packages!

AND….. we already have a new project in our sights after the Anson is finished…… an aircraft that will land on water and climb out of it all by itself, an aircraft made famous by the famous writer and flyer !

More Normandy work

Although the release of our Normandy 1944 base software is delayed (we are hopeful to get it out next month!), work still continues on a host of related things. I have collected a tremendous amount of relevant websites, tons of photos and stories and even have started an entirely different project, but still related to Normandy.

AND construction work continues. Here’s my fresh-out-of-the-workshop Regelbau 612 bunker that will find a place in the Courseulles scenery and other places !

FSX/P3D NOT dead at all

The US’s two largest general aviation organizations AOPA and EEA are recognizing desktop flight simulators as real tools. FSX (or Prepare3D now) is not dead by a long shot, my friends, and being further developed and used for ever more serious operations ! Check out the video and (if you can) the article on AOPA.

Lockheed Hudson Update

Simon Smeiman has been working on an update for our Lockheed Hudson/Lodestar package over the past months and we’re almost ready to publish it. It is a pretty large file with over 200 Mb to download, and will be made available through our shop (just log in to your account and you’ll find the additional file there).

In case you did not buy the Hudson directly from us, please refer to your supplier for the update. We usually have them ready within a few days after updating our own shop.

Here’s what Simon changed:

This update corrects the following:

the small window clickspot on the pilot side is now on the lock knob at the right side of the window handle.
the manifold pressure gauge for engine 2 is now corrected.
the prop feathering has been corrected. To feather a prop first hit the feathering knob then drag the fuel mixture lever to the cut-off position.
the small vents on the cowl sides are removed.
The hopping and bobbing of the aircraft while on the ground is hopefully now gone too. On my system the aircraft is now as solid as a rock while on the ground and during view changes.
The aircraft remains slippery. I did some changes to make the slowing down a little quicker. One should just remember that slowing down on landings without the flaps extended will result in a slow decay of speed. With flaps extended the aircraft slows down pretty quick. I think this behavior is in line with what is explained in the Pilot Notes of the real aircraft.

Simon is also working on an expansion pack, that will add dedicated Mk3, Mk VI and a Lodestar with enlarged fuselage, raised tailplane and new wing profile.

Simon Smeiman is ‘at it’ again. When I found an ad in one of the aviation magazines about the South African built Sling a few months ago, I asked Simon to see if he could get in touch with the factory. He did much better than just that and today dropped a Beta Version of his latest aircraft on my server !
